If you go with earbuds, then get the ones that have a cord between them...

...because you know one will fall out at some point. I ended up buying an inexpensive pair similar to the second picture off Amazon several (3+) years ago and they're still going strong. I thought they had stopped charging, so I bought a pair of Shokz headphones when Costco had them on sale, but the charge LED started working again so I'm still using the first pair. The Shokz will stay on the shelf as long as my cheap ones are working (and charging). Recommend going on Amazon to find the cheapest waterproof ones you can find for gym use. They'll probably take years of abuse.
