This gardenia is so small that if a deer was the culprit...

...the entire thing would be gone. This looks like someone took scissors and carefully snipped off the unopened buds and then dropped them right under the plant. Strange. But speaking of squirrels...I bought and installed a bird feeder baffle yesterday. Today I happened to check my back yard security camera, and I saw that despite the baffle, there was one squirrel hanging from the feeder and three others on the ground fighting over the dropped scraps. I guess I'll keep my BB gun handy...

Try moving the pole 3' further away from any bush or tree limb, or...
