Clark Howard (financial guru with TV/radio/podcast since the 90's) is

a huge fan of EV's and has owned a Tesla for years now. But when he travels (which is a lot), he never rents an EV. They are way more trouble than they are worth when you are in a strange city and away from your home charger. I do think an EV would be awesome for around town and daily commuting. I really think I'd like my next vehicle to be an EV. But it would be a real struggle if a family's only vehicles were EV's as road trips are a severe hassle. I expect that will be true for at least another decade. Charging infrastructure will improve, but it will be slow. A big issue is installing a charging station is EXPENSIVE, and it's difficult to make your money back just selling electricity. Which basically means either the government or someone with more money than they know what to do with will need to take the lead since I don't see the free market getting there from here.
