curtains all the way up. Sunrise is 5:30. Decent chance that you notice, depending on how deep of a sleeper you are. Or work a hard day, go to bed at 8 again with shades / curtains open and see if the room being flooded with light keeps you from falling asleep quickly. And note, dude behind you is being the jerk, BUT, if he had asked nicely like I suggested, that could have been a good start.
