Not in the sense that he was a land owner, instead Professor Arthur Ballard Massey's (Botany) research led to the most comprehensive collection or Virginia and Southeastern US flora. Know as the Massey Herbarium over 115,000 specimens of plants, fungi, etc. are on display. As I understand it, the "master plan" for the VT campus features all of the specimens trees and shrubs found in Virginia. This plan, originating and was then implemented by Stuart Kent Cassell, VPI's "COO" (of sorts). Cassell Colosseum is named for him.
When I was an undergraduate, I was under the impression that the Herbarium might be an excellent source for "combustible herb". Not the case, back to the Rebel Yell.
