Argentinian Robert DiVincenzo birdied the 17th hole but signed his scorecard as though he had scored a par, thereby dropping out of a first place tie and giving the Masters win to Bob Goalby. DiVincenzo then declared “What a stupid I am.” DiVincenzo had previously won The Open in 1967, his only major. The 1968 Masters was Goalby’s only major.
