Hockey has never been first among the sports I follow. But it’s a fantastic sport that can’t be fully appreciated until you see a high level game in person. Casual fans have no idea what guys like Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin can do until you see it up close. I wish more colleges sponsored hockey as a varsity sport, though I know it is expensive to maintain or rent facilities. I occasionally go to Robert Morris University games near my home. They play schools like Niagara and Canisius and Sacred Heart and Army with occasional bigger names like Penn State. It’s great fun and a huge bargain. A lot of schools have club teams so you wonder what it would take for some of them to step it up a notch. Not every school can be Minnesota or one of the Boston schools, but it can still be great entertainment.
