"Oh, you don't want our insurance, ok, well that broken leg your kid got riding their bike is gonna be $50k". They make it basically impossible to not have the insurance as you are facing bankruptcy for anything serious. If you wanted to fix the whole thing, you could make the hospitals accept the lowest price they accept from insurers from the uninsured. Our 20% of GDP system has only one advantage i see over the 10% of GDP systems everywhere else, and that's the amount of time it takes to get an operation. That's it from my perspective, and the medical travelers who go over seas for procedures somewhat validates this.
