A sport is an event where points earned by achieving a specific action or outcome OR where time determines the winner. Referees enforce the rules, but don't award the points based on their opinions. Anything where a judge selects the winner either directly or by assigning points, is not a sport, but the participants may be athletes. Examples: Golf, sport, not always athletes Boxing, not a sport, participants are athletes (was a sport when a round was a knock-out and they would wake them up and start a new round) Figure skating, not a sport, usually athletes Ski Jumping, not a sport (though it could be if they took the judging out and the winner was who went the furthest.)
