A nice theory, except that only looks at one 120V outlet

and ignores the things that are way more likely to be the issue...like the dryer, dishwasher, oven, HVAC, water heater...all the things on a dedicated circuit. It might catch if you have a poltergeist who likes to make 12 cups of coffee in the middle of the night, but not if there is something wonky with any of the high-draw appliances.
