Losing PLD for 53 games surely hurt and was probably worth 2 games, but the abysmal PP especially before the Olympic break did them in. All advanced stats show the Caps are one of the best 5 on 5 teams in the league. Same stats show they are brutally bad on the PP, and it had to have cost them the 4 or 5 points they needed. I also recall giving up two shorties on the same PK in two different games. That has to cease. Caps need to spend the freaking money in the offseason. They put their entire offseason on getting Ehlers and had no plan B. Can't do that again. I'd think it's an easy sell to play with Ovi in his sunset season then be The Man after that for a dynamic goal scorer.
