A little boring brain-dump follow-up...

Made it to the softball tailgate, lot of fun, met quite a few posters who've I've only known on the boards. A few more comments on the softball board. I didn't want to pick favorites but ... those clams were special but a lot of good eats. Easy day after hiking for three straight, Earlier hung out at the market downtown people watching, a little Karma storm brewing when the early 70s started to show up, this guy was singing old tunes w/a few anti-war ones thrown in... (blink my eyes and I'm an 18 yo old kid again at VPI&SU.) Always on the hunt for new places to eat, seem to be burning out a lot, "Our Daily Bread" was pretty good for decent sandwich (to throw in day pack for hiking) and especially for breakfast, not cheap but a lot cheaper than the hotel which was .... chrap. would love to drink a few beers on a warm summer night at Featherbones, was nice enough a few nights ago. When I hiked up the Sarver trail ran into a couple coming down who warned me how dangerous it was. As an aside, if you follow any hiking vlogs, you'll learn about something called "fear-mongering" And to be fair you should warn people about stuff but there is this "fear-mongering" thing and felt that's what I got. Maybe I didn't look the part or something but I was the one using poles and they weren't and yes the trail got steep...but nothing I couldn't handle. Oh well, I gave 'em a "OK, thanks, I'll find out i guess" and really had no problem. Oh by the way, those new polls, I'm sold. Love reading the comment notebooks at the shelter: NOBOs (north-bound through hikers) SOBOs (south-bound etc.) and side Sarver side trails were all commenting how hard it was to get up on Sinking Creek Mountain. Its just tough no matter how you slice it, but thought it was funny getting the same comment from all directions. Yes, my Harris Teeter loyal customer card works perfectly fine at Krogers, I must have learned that somewhere but forgot H-T is owned by Krogers. Nice couple of warm days, boobs out, everyone seemed relaxed and enjoying it, you'd hardly have know there was a school there. PS and this just in: just checked Strava and my Friday hike on Peters Mountain overlaps - barely - the hike I took back in Nov 24. pushed an extra half hour without knowing that would connect up the two hikes. Still need one more hike up hog trail then north to have hike from Angel's rest to south end on Sinking Creek mountain. This was like my 3rd attempt. woohoo. 1) You probably threw the bums a dime, in your prime didn't you?🎵 I did. Kind of funny because the market guy were taking down the pavillion that was there, while he was playing. Good voice, not miked up though. ** Edited by `lag at 4/5/2026, 9:43:15 AM ** Edited by `lag at 4/5/2026, 1:21:20 PM
