Inspection Frequency:
Inspect the anode rod every 3 to 5 years.
Replace it if it shows significant corrosion:
Signs of a Bad Anode Rod
Visible Corrosion: If more than 6 inches of the core wire is exposed.
Thickness: If the rod is less than 1/2 inch thick.
Rusty Water: If you notice rusty or discolored water.
Odor: A sulfuric smell in hot water can indicate a failing anode rod.
