I would wait.

I’m also an educator with a public system, and I changed positions two months ago after 18 years at the same position. The position I got, I applied for over a year ago just to get an interview. The position I wanted had no openings over the last year. Finally got called to interview, thought I did pretty well, but didn’t hear anything for several weeks. The year of waiting taught me patience. Finally got the call and was offered. Beforehand, I spoke with another guy who went through the process some years before, and he gave up hope after waiting 4-5 months after interviewing. Call came out of nowhere and he got the job. This is probably a larger system than yours, but the point being there are all kinds of things going on behind the scenes. For example, it could be as simple as they need to process an outgoing person completely before officially offering the new person. Or maybe they anticipate another position opening and think you’re a better fit for that one. After I got my position after a year of waiting, there are now 10 openings of the same position. Go figure. Timing is everything and things happen for a reason.
