Take the latest flight you can to Europe plus...
I used to travel to Europe for business quite a bit. Recently, just for fun. I have worked in Zurich, London, and Dublin for various reasons with multiple companies. Everyone is different in how they handle the lack of sleep, so here is what works best for me:
- Take the latest flight of the night if you have options. Taking a 5:30 flight is rough to try to get some sleep on the plane regardless of class. When I worked in London, I loved taking a flight that left at 10ish out of IAD.
- If you take the later flight you can avoid all of the in-flight services and get down to business and sleep; otherwise, if you take the dinner flight. Eat, but avoid alcohol (I know this the hard part unless it helps you get to sleep faster.)
- Avoid watching movies etc. Use the sleep eye-wear.
- Drink water
- Get the best seat for the money you can afford. I used to fly Virgin Atlantic Upper Class quite a bit to London...it was awesome to say the least.
- Bottom line for me is to get as much sleep as I can get on the flight and stay hydrated.
- Once I'm 'there', if you have a landing lounge at your service, use it to take a shower, change of clothing, eat breakfast and 'power-up' with caffeine. If not, power-up with caffeine and go as long as your body allows by staying active and eating on 'their' time....THEN crash for an early night so you can reset your body and be ready to go the next day on local time.
FWIW.... good luck and ignore being tired. :)
