Sounds like it
Would think that's just fine for middle school to high school kids, but sounds overly ambitious for elementary school kids. I would do a mile hike for those kids.
Frankly I would start with a mile hike for the entire troop, then work up to longer distances. There may be some obese high school kids who can't do 5 miles now...
