the BOV is driving this train.
Messaging is so important, having Sands make the annoucement, gets Whit out of the way.
Sands is doing what the BOV wants. Second action is Whitm which will be handled tactfully, through highly encoraged retirement and standing until the new AD comes in. THat keeps a leader in managing the athletic dept store. (instead of the really bad support staff) while the BOV recreates the athletic dept and hires the new AD. However he will have no authority.

He knows very well how out of whack our athletics program was. Took awhile but he finally did his duty.
