Maybe what you're likely seeing is their switch to prioritizing their own rankings over composite rankings. If you look at the TSL articles, they've got the On3 recruit screenshots for Johnson and Wiggins. You can see both players have the same rating on 247 now as they did when they first committed to VT. Wiggins is a 3-star, 87 rated player. Johnson is a 3-star, 88 rated player. Barnes's article doesn't have the screenshot, but the write-up says 247 rates him as a 3-star and he still has an 88 rating today, which is a high 3-star. I think Davi Belfort might have dropped, as he went from #48 QB when signing to #70 QB today, but he signed early on before a lot of evaluations were really complete. I don't buy the narrative that recruiting sites downgrade players when they sign with VT. VT doesn't give them a bump like UGA, Bama, or tOSU give players (except in cases where they go from unrated to 3-stars). But I don't think the sites are immediately downgrading them just because they committed to VT.
