Hammond wasn’t really impeded there. The hands there from the defender are fine. Hammond even blows by him and simply slips. Compare that to VT's QB's over the same time period and it's been a vastly different approach with very mixed results. Of course, between those guys you'll get some players like Pribula who are stuck behind an established QB like Allar and transfer playing time.

It's also the same reason that VT went up in the NET after losing on the road to SMU in a close game. It's all based on efficiency metrics. VT winning 4 of their games in OT (including one at home to #147 Elon), is bad for efficiency and bad for their overall NET ranking.

The "polls" are people who are willing to set the betting lines for other people and Kalshi is deriving a probability on it. Let's say the best offer right now for Franklin NOT to be the next head coach is 3:1 odds. Somebody feels really confident about Franklin being the coach, so they go in and they stake $100 to raise the offer to 4:1. Kalshi moves the probability up when that happens. If somebody takes that offer and bets to win that $100 at 4:1 odds that Franklin won't be the coach, it moves the best odds being offered back down to the 3:1 odds. Kalshi then moves the probability back down. But there's not enough action on the non-Franklin candidates for their probabilities to be a reliable gauge. Those can be easily moved by somebody betting on those candidates or offering different lines that make Kalshi calculate weird probabilities, which is what happened with Chesney briefly.

Essentially, you're getting +213 for him to NOT be VT's HC. It's -285 for him to be the next HC.

This team finished 11th in the ACC last year. Yes, injuries hurt them and they've brought in a lot of talent in the portal. However, they're also losing 40% of their rebounds and points (Mutts and Basile) and replacing that production with players who haven't put up similar numbers in their careers. I think there's a lot of reasons for optimism. They have a healthy squad going into the season and look better defensively (on paper). I'm hopeful this will end up being a solid NCAAT team that finishes in the top half of the ACC. But I think we need to see it on the court before we can set those expectations. I know one thing for sure, I'm going to be cheering hard for the ACC in OOC play this year. The ACC shot themselves in the foot in the past two years by losing big OOC games and the result was a meager 5 ACC teams in the NCAAT in each year. If the ACC replicates that this year, I don't think VT has much of a chance of making it.

Maybe what you're likely seeing is their switch to prioritizing their own rankings over composite rankings. If you look at the TSL articles, they've got the On3 recruit screenshots for Johnson and Wiggins. You can see both players have the same rating on 247 now as they did when they first committed to VT. Wiggins is a 3-star, 87 rated player. Johnson is a 3-star, 88 rated player. Barnes's article doesn't have the screenshot, but the write-up says 247 rates him as a 3-star and he still has an 88 rating today, which is a high 3-star. I think Davi Belfort might have dropped, as he went from #48 QB when signing to #70 QB today, but he signed early on before a lot of evaluations were really complete. I don't buy the narrative that recruiting sites downgrade players when they sign with VT. VT doesn't give them a bump like UGA, Bama, or tOSU give players (except in cases where they go from unrated to 3-stars). But I don't think the sites are immediately downgrading them just because they committed to VT.
