Coaches and Philosophies

WVU has a recent history of hiring offensive minded coaches and from the Hal Mumme tree. Rich Rod, Holgerson, Neal Brown. And to a certain extent they have had better QB play. VT had Beamer for the longest time which we know was conservative in nature. Fuente was supposed to change that but it failed (I would argue due to recruiting). Pry is defensive trained too. I am curious how the defensive rankings compare. My impression is that VT was stronger defensively (at least prior to the last couple of years).

Why has VT struggled on O so much more than WVU over the years?
Techsupport 09/22/22 09:05 AM ET
Because it cares more about Defense**

Yes, but Rodriguez, Stewart, Holgerson, Brown. More than just Holgerson.**

Brown was at Kentucky and Texas Tech, so there is a big Mumme influence. **
