Tony Elliot went into 2025 with a UVA record of 11-23. Coach PRY went into 2025 with a VT record of 16-19. Imagine we open up season with a couple of cupcakes where we win 2 games and build confidence. Game 3 is a game with South Carolina, where a confident Hokies nudge out a win. Now PRY is sitting at 19-19, with new coordinators, and being 3-0 on the season. Would VT have had the patience for a year 4 with Elliot after watching 23 losses, including 3 back-to-back losses to VT? Now they are 6-1, have a legit shot at an ACC title, and a spot in the college football playoff. Not to mention they will most likely dispose of a struggling VT to end the regular season. How much of the success of a program like VT and UVA depends on patience? How long in this day in age does it really take to turn a program like ours around? Things to ponder as VT prepares to throw money at the problem, with a committee that allows the decision makers to dodge blame later. We need to find the right guy, that has youth, coaching smarts, and wants to stick around. I see the VT rebuild as a long term project rather than a quick fix, and Hokie Nation will have to be happy with gradual progress for at least a while.
