Another potential head coach candidate: Scott Abell

He’s in his first season at Rice and already has them at 3-1, after they finished 4-8 last year. He was previously the head coach at Davidson, which led FCS in rushing offense for 6 of his 7 seasons there. His Wildcats team in 2018 set the all time record for most rushing yards in a college football game with 789 yards on the ground vs San Diego. Before that, he was the head coach at DIII Washington and Lee where he was ODAC coach of the year twice. He’s a Virginia guy, originally from Albemarle County and coached at a few VA high school football programs. He’s also fairly young at 55 years old. Could be an interesting guy to at least consider. Bio below.

You think Power 4 is a requirement?**
BG Hokie 09/19/25 10:37 AM ET
I don’t think so but only 4 games at the FBS level is a little thin.**
