The internet and logic since everything was set before the quarter final's.
The 7-10 seed quarter-final was on New Year's eve, so the semi-final for the #2/#3 bracket was going to be the earlier 1/8/26 Thursday night game. And the 1/8/26 semi-final game was set for the Fiesta Bowl way back in April. Thus whichever teams came out of the #2/#3 side of the bracket would be playing on 1/8 in Phoenix and the #1/#4 bracket teams were going to play on 1/9 in Atlanta.
The winners of the IU-Bama and Oregon-TT games were going to play on 1/9 in Atlanta regardless of who won those games. There was no choice.
Additionally, if Miami and IU win, the championship game will be a quasi-home game in Miami even though IU is #1 seed.
