I've been trying to prove for a while that high school recruiting rankings are unreliable due to the high attrition rates. Classes cannot be properly ranked when 40% or more of a class will not contribute. My analysis of the VA Top 25 recruits from 2012 - 2020 revealed that 53% of the four stars contributed while 59% of the three stars contributed. My analysis of the Va Tech classes from 2012 - 2018 revealed that 53% of the four stars contributed at Tech while 49% of the three stars contributed at Tech. In a typical class, 50% of these recruits will not play so I contend that the rankings are not reliable. RECRUITING RANKINGS ARE BS!!!!!! There are also too many exceptions. There are so many lower-rated players that outperform the vaunted four stars. A lot of these guys peak in high school, medically retire or they get kicked off the team for off-field issues. I maintain that you cannot properly evaluate players until they are in the same league playing against the same teams. There are also a lot of late bloomers. Texas Tech / OU Heisman Trophy Winner QB Baker Mayfield was a three star recruit Cal / Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza was a two star recruit. UGA QB Stetson Bennett was a two star recruit. Virginia Tech DT Kamari Copeland was a two star recruit. Virginia Tech RB's Bayshul Tuten and Marcellous Hawkins were UNRATED. Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans was UNRATED. Virginia Tech QB Marcus Vick was a FIVE STAR. Of the 32 first round picks of the 2018 draft, 14 were 3 star prospects or lower with three former walk-ons
