fairly good but not a great player -the Hoos recruiting approach

I've been on their board recently. They smugly believe that the (mostly) transfer-portal approach to recruiting is better as they claim that older age and more mature players will be more successful than going the high school route. They are convinced that Franklin will not be able to hold onto a lot of his young, better players; and that after VT develops them they will transfer out with some being 'bought' at that point by the Hoos. They believe they have a large enough transfer budget to buy and retain experienced transfers. Basically they think that since this approach worked for Indiana (which had an older group of players during that time) over the last two years it will work for them. This is also the approach Florida State has used for the last three years but with mixed-to-low success; and Tony Elliott is certainly not Curt Cignett by a long shot. ** Edited by lazarus1 at 6/3/2026, 11:47:55 AM ** Edited by lazarus1 at 6/3/2026, 2:24:08 PM

50% of UVA roster is Grad/Sr - 22/23 yr old vs our 20/19 yr olds

Sometimes older teams are really bad

We will see. Going the portal route every year could be hit or miss just
Hokie_Forester 06/03/26 05:01 PM ET
They won the portal last year in getting a solid QB

UVA did well last year. I can't blame them for doing it again.

depends on how well they are coached up

You have good point but UVA will probably not be a doormat as in the past**

you may be right, but not necessarily a bad thing for us

I think Franklin is completely ignoring location on his recruiting board.

Zayvon didn’t have a committable offer so his VT visit was canceled.
