My thoughts exactly.

I continue to say this: VT should go after Tim Polasek from NDSU. I highly doubt he'd say no, and the guy seems to be able to coach. He has also worked at Northern Illinois, Iowa, and Wyoming...not exactly the SEC, but he has varied experience as a position coach and as a coordinator, and he seems to be a winner. He also seems like he could truly build a program of tough-nosed kids that just love football, and I think that is VT's best chance of sustaining success in the current climate. Tech will never be able to consistently raise enough money to load its roster with the talent to compete with the top 25, so I think the best strategy is to recruit kids who want to be in Blacksburg and will likely stick around and develop. That strategy won't win any national championships, but that's not going to happen no matter who coaches the team. Lastly, a guy like Polasek won't cost a fortune. There's no guarantee James Franklin will win at VT, but he will definitely win financially, regardless of his win-loss record. To me, he seems like as much of a risk as hiring someone who is not a "marquee name". VT cannot financially afford to have to pay another huge buyout to fire another coach in 5 years.
