VT is not trying to establish a perfect repeatable system

We are trying to claw our way out of a deep deep deep football depression that has threatened the future of our entire athletic department. So they made the choice to focus on getting the very best coach possible as the first priority. And the GM would then complement them to create a tightly integrated professional team. For the immediate future of VT, this is a logical approach. We don’t need to worry about future hires and coaching networks right now. What we need is the best possible coach we can afford to make VT football nationally relevant again and do it as quickly as possible (1-2 years).

I agree. Perhaps our GM won't really be a GM. **

When a coach is fired in the NFL, the owner does it, not the GM**
