Saban was a master at developing players over time. He got them to buy into his system and his players would steadily progress over their careers. The ability for players to enter the transfer portal to get visibility and then be easily poached by other schools who are now allowed to flash more money in their face destroyed the concept of sustaining a program with upperclassmen who have been groomed over 3-4 years. With that said, if VT actually had the opportunity to hire Nick Saban, it would be negligent to not do so. He could probably win 8 games next season in the ACC with the current roster. But Nick Saban is not going to come out of retirement to coach VT...he seems to be really enjoying his new gig as an Air B&B host. TIC ** Edited by MP4VT2004 at 9/15/2025, 10:09:27 PM
