Hiring people because they are “in demand” is dumb. Tom Hermann was in demand. Chad Morris was in demand. Will Muschamp was in demand. That’s a terrible criterion to use to decide on a coaching hire. You also have an assumption built into your argument — that things can only get worse and not better under the current head coach. You may be right…but you may be wrong. Losing every close game for three years is horribly frustrating. But he hasn’t been a head coach before. If he had, I’d say your conclusion that it’s not “in him” would be more warranted. Experience is the best teacher. So I don’t know that he can’t do it. Perhaps he just doesn’t have a steep learning curve on that part of the game. He’s done well with retaining talent, fitting the culture, selling a vision. Those things matter too. Pry probably isn’t the guy, but being quick to fire people doesn’t necessarily mean you’re more committed to winning. That’s all I’m really pushing back on.
