Because they already played the game...
4 teams is such a limited field, that yeah, if you've already lost to a team in the field, then you're out, sorry, don't lose. It's more interesting to see new matchups.
I don't care who the subjective best 4 teams are, I want to remove as much subjectivity as possible, and make actual wins/losses count for more.
