Even if he's a good coach, I don't see how you can make that hire as A&M

Part of the problem with the gargantuan buyout associated with Fisher's guaranteed contract isn't just the money itself, it's the feeling that you MUST get an absolutely successful hire in replacement because of that cost. Yeah the guy was a coordinator at A&M, but most of his defenses, both A&M and elsewhere, have been OK-ish, in the 30s-40s of total defense. He's had 1 good year at Duke, working on a possible 2nd. But when you're spending $80M to make Fisher go away, is Elko really the guy worth that? How much have VT fans complained early in the Pry tenure, about how they paid $10M to fire Fuente and all we got is Pry who isn't winning games yet, and we're never gonna win games again, etc.? Now increase that price tag by almost a literal order of magnitude, and also increase the total composite delusions of the fanbase by two orders of magnitude, and you have the A&M hiring situation.
