The bye isn't the problem, its the length of time since their last game
Ohio State went 25 days between games. In the bowl era, no one cared as much. But these are playoffs. There should be no break between conference championships and the start of the playoffs. And each round should only be a week apart. But they still want to pretend the bowls matter so they schedule quarterfinal games around New Years. Second round games should have been played last weekend.
