Why hire a HC with no prior HC experience and pay him near the top of ACC

and give him a 6 year contract? Pry's initial contract was for $4 million 1st year, increasing each year. Given no prior HC experience his salary and buyout should have been much lower. Contrast that with a similarly inexperienced USC HC named Shane Beamer who coached in a conference with much higher salaries, who only got $2.7 million/year when he started, as well as only a 5 year contract. Something was seriously wrong with Babcock's mind or judgement when he made this hire and contract.

You're assuming coaches have no leverage which is not the case especially

ADs should hire and contract coaches on assumption they will be gone...

Sure but if you give less than the market, you limit your pool
