Pop is so undersized that my 16 yo son who has only been hitting the weights for 2 years has bigger arms than him. He also appears to have an issue with seeing clearly as he ran into the back of a 300 lb lineman engaged in a downfield block last night when there was 5 yards to either side of him to run. I was hoping the OSU transfer would give VT a better option but if he can’t beat Pop out, yikes. As of right now, this team has a ceiling of 3 wins with a likely loss to UVA. It’s bad and it’s related to talent and depth. The new coordinators are doing the best they can IMO. I feel bad for them. If I’m Sands, Whit and Pry both got put on notice this morning: convince me by the end of the month or get out. Succession plan is Monty is the interim HC and I’m hiring someone by 10/31 as AD and that person has until 11/30 to hire a new coach. That coaches first job is to take every available dime of the NIL budget and find a QB, 5 OL, and mic LB in the portal. I’d probably tell Monty he can keep his job if he helps out in getting an early start on this. Sam, sorry, but we hardly knew ya. Nothing personal but we need more gravitas here to reestablish the program. Maybe you can stay as a LB coach/co DC if you are interested. Everyone else not named Fontel Mines, you are gone. My concern is Sands timeline isn’t until next season due to financial constraints around the buy out.
