Ivy League. Pretty stable athletic conference at least.
In all seriousness, WSJ is just one measurable. And how one measures all of this is anyone's guess. I can't imagine most people thinking that VT is the top public school in Virginia with UVa around. I'd like to think we are number one, but I am biased. Certainly the AAU and USN&WR (among other subjective listings) would disagree. If only the WSJ were handing out AAU invites.
Academics is not the enemy of athletics and vice versa. And being a conference or national champion in a sport is a much more objective and tangible goal than pleasing any of the above. So while it's flattering to know that WSJ holds us in such high esteem, I think I'd rather win a national championship in football.
