IMO this team has neither underperformed or overperformed
The team has only "underperformed" some fan expectations that were based only on paper, and based on hope not any objective evidence. There was no real way of knowing what we had with all the new faces until we played ball.
Basically we took a great leap forward from last seasons dismal roster to becoming a middle of the pack P5 roster. A lot of us were hoping for an even bigger leap, but I think coming out of the Bahamas it was kinda evident we were a borderline bubblish team. Yes we have lost heartbreaking games and could easily be on the right side of the bubble. But we won our share also. We had key injuries, but almost no one plays a season without them.
Maybe we win the next 3 or 4 games and slip in. Keep hoping. But dont take it out on the team for not being as deep and talented as WE had hoped.

Still think we would have about 4 more wins if we had "average"...

Underperforming or Overperforming is a matter of perspective.

Last year shouldn't be compared to anything, beyond why we need a new AD..

I agree with most of this. I wouldn't dismiss the injuries quite as easily
