How the hell can home field advantage be this big in basketball?

I mean, yes, -there's no travel so home team is rested (although UVA is just 2&1/2 hrs away) -home team used to their own court/lighting -fans going crazy for you on your home court, obviously It just doesn't seem like it should create the dichotomy between what we saw in Charlottesville a few weeks ago and this. Not complaining, obviously, I just find the home field advantage gulf so huge in basketball (caveat...doesn't matter with VT woman -:)
