the women's team success and this year's mens..
disappointing season are, I think, in part due to the relative degree of strength of the ACC in the men's and women's conference respectively. The womens' ACC is on par this year with the glory days of the men's ACC in years past. Alot of really good coaches and programs. Playing Tennessee in Knoxville and particularly playing in this conference this year has primed our Ladies team (and other ACC teams) for this run.
The mens' ACC, particularly in coaching over the last couple of years, is way, way below that level. Basically a bunch of mediocre coaches with a one or two good coaches (imo, Bennett and Young), no great coaches. Even Coach K in his last couple of years was not at the level of days past. Our men's team therefore can compete in the conference but is just so-so out of conference whether in the regular season or postseason. CMY needs to schedule one or two really tough non-conference games next season at least until the ACC league gets better. College of of Charleston, Dayton are decent teams but not the type that will really get you ready for tough national competition. The ACC right now is basically at the level of the old Metro Conference right now, certainly in league-wide coaches.

Larranaga was under .500 in his 8th, 9th and 10th years at Miami. (2018-21)
