There's too much work in listing every prospect VT has contacted out of the transfer portal so far, but some interesting (and needed, imo) trends are starting to show. The staff have reached out to quite a few players who could replace Mutts as a 4. Some I like, some I don't like as much as Mutts. But for the most part they are trending towards shooters, and not back-to-the-basket 4 types. That is to be expected as it's the only glaring need on the roster for next season (with the current roster as is) What is (sort of) surprising, but refreshing, is to see them reach out to some wings as well. And every wing has been 6'4+, but most in the 6'5 range. All have been good to great shooters either this season or the season prior. This tells me they have contingencies planned for either/both Maddox and Cattoor not returning and the size means they could replace them with a bigger addition. Which would help with some versatility, a favorite of mine. What was a big surprise to me though, is seeing them extend interest to Albany U freshman Jonathan Beagle. I like Beagle a lot, don't get me wrong. But he only makes sense as an addition if you are losing either Basile or Kidd. I think he would be a downgrade from Basile (unless you could add someone like Jamison Battle as the 4), but a slight upgrade from Kidd (significant upgrade if you factor in 3 years of eligibility). What this interest DOESNT tell us is that their counterparts they could replace are leaving. VT had interest last season in Noah Carter, a transfer from UNI. He had significant interest in VT, but when VT felt like Mutts was on a path to coming back, their interest waned and Carter chose Missouri. Very much the same concept here. They could feel very well about everyone wanting to return, and their only need could be a Mutts replacement. But you don't want to get caught empty-handed so you look for those contingency plans. And if those contingency plans tell us anything, it's that the staff recognizes the need to get bigger and more versatile.
