So there are many levels below Pedulla and Cattoor that are still good shooters. When I made the comment I said they have a proven track record. I've seen Nickel play for the last 4 years, in addition to this year. Shooting translates. There's no such thing as "shooting at an ACC level," he is well above average this season across the ACC. He is shooting 36%. That includes shooting 36.3% in the 3 games in Orlando...against Top 100 (very much ACC level) competition. When I say he isn't shooting how he is capable, he is still capable of another level. To dismiss someone who scored 2,900+ points in high school (regardless of competition) as not having proven he can shoot is bonkers. Anyone who has ever watched the kid for 5 min can see he is an elite level shooter. His brain is currently tying up his feet, so isn't allowing himself to just play, which is when he will reach that next level. And even with all of that happening he is still shooting 36% from 3. Pedulla and Cattoor? 37%. But both of those went through a drought during the Orlando weekend. (Cattoor shot 32% in Orlando, Pedulla was 5 for 7 against Iowa State, but 1 for 7 in the other 2) So...like I said, there is nuance and context to judging his ability to shoot. He took 27 total threes over the course of 25 games last season. He has already taken 25 threes this season and has made 3 more threes than he did all of last year. It is incredibly difficult to come in 8 min a game as a freshman and toss up 1 three per game and have any kind of consistency.
