Could you clarify which part of my position on scanning data you find

dubious...because I think we're both essentially saying the same thing (that VT has not chosen to use scanning data to its fullest effect and that there are constructive ways to use it that seem to have not been explored). So I'm confused...perhaps I wasn't clear...happy to try again. Re: cultivation, I would bet we actually share some similar views on that...but my point here is more of a practical one. If cultivation is not a strength, employing a solution that requires it to be doesn't make sense. In an ideal world, the cultivation scenario would be fixed for a variety of reasons far beyond this basketball ticketing process... but even if we hired the most sought after and talented athletic fundraiser in America tomorrow and doubled the size of the Hokie Club staff under his/her direction, that cultivation issue isn't going to be fixed in time to have those direct conversations effectively in advance of basketball re-seating and the implementation of new policies and procedures. And it IS sticky territory when it comes to telling people what they "can" or "can't" do with tickets they've purchased...I mean, technically, a Duke fan is more than welcome to donate to the HSF, buy season basketball tickets, select center court seats, and use them - fully decked out in Duke garb - for just one game a year. (You'll recall our football fans know a thing or two about doing this at UVA). I also, respectfully, submit (and I do clearly recall your past screeds on the topic) that the corporate donors/contractual obligations you continue to find objectionable are really just part of the cost of doing business in college athletics today. Nike has good seats at JPJ and the Smith Center too. And everywhere else we play. A huge segment of lower level seats and suite space....for yeeeeeeaaarrrrrrsss....at the ACC Tournament are corporate/contractual. It's a very common practice and part of the fabric of the whole situation. Learfield is the manager of the vast majority of those relationships and while I don't know how effective they are or are not at ticket management, the existence of those tickets is just the facts of life. And just being honest, other than the fact you don't like their existence, I'm not sure why reaching out to the contractual/corporate group ahead of donors makes a lot of sense. Contractual is...contractual. And there can be a lot of balls in the air there on the corporate side...for example, say we rattle off a great record and end up with a game featured by College GameDay in January. Learfield can't say "sorry, Delta Dental, you've provided xx,0000 of advertising all season and your commercial will run this weekend during the game as well but we declined your seats in November before we knew the record and the media obligations for this game" more easily than the athletic department can say "Joe, you've given us $350,000 and have season tickets which, by the way, we are immensely grateful for... but we wanted you to know that we do have additional options available to purchase season tickets this year where you can either continue to buy the full schedule of games as you have done in the past or just buy ACC tickets in case those are the only games you think you'll be able to make it here from Richmond for". There's a bunch of people on the donor side that can look at their calendars right now and say whether they're going to be on a cruise in December for two weeks or missing the ACC/Big 10 Challenge because it's their kids birthday party or tied up multiple weekends with youth sports...but much harder, IMO, for the people that cultivate the corporate side to predict the future. At any rate, let me know where I lost you on the scanning data part because I'd like to figure out where we are missing each other there.
