Yep! And many Sports Information offices are behind the times there..

I'm thankful for TSL linking to HokieSports updates to the stats during/after games, because they track exact number of possessions. If VT beats UVA: VT - 100 UVA - 50 At face value that looks awesome, right? And it is! But for purposes of self-scouting, it is much more important to break that out into possessions and efficiency. If VT wins 100-50 and they played 50 possessions, then both VT and UVA were pretty efficient offensively (you want to be above 1 point per possession) but obviously VT was wildly successful offensively and UVA was wildly awful defensively. So if you're UVA, you understand you probably need minimal attention to offensive clean-up and wholesale changes defensively. If you're VT, you probably look at what happened defensively as you want to be below 1ppp on defense. But if that same game score happened and there were 100 possessions then VT did about what they needed offensively and were unbelievably good defensively, and UVA needs work on both.
