You'd have to know what everyone is getting to evaluate that...
If I said Dorn was playing for free he's a huge advantage. If I said he was getting 3 million it'd be a huge disappointment.
You cant know for sure about an evaluation until they arrive on campus.
I think VT missed their evaluation of Pasha (Id say I did too). I don't think they missed on Dorn (obviously how much it cost withstanding)
VT came into the off-season needing a starting Center. They got that in Hansberry. So that meant they had Hansberry, Lawal and Gurdak. You never know how long it's going to take a freshman, especially a post player. So they needed to bridge the gap.
You go into the market and you're excluded from anyone with starting aspirations, that's just not happening. You don't know whether Gurdak will take a month, a year or 3 years to "get it" so someone with multiple years is ideal. You need someone who can beat and bang against bigger opponents because neither Lawal nor Hansberry have the size.
So with all of that in mind, Dorn isn't a bad solution. He got hurt with a difficult injury and in his absence the person he was supposed to be a gap to closed the gap.
I don't think VT is paying exorbitant amounts to HS players, so I'm not sure VT could've done much better than Jones. He was never expected to play this early so any contribution is just extra.
Pasha would've been nice had he clicked...but it just hasn't been that way. Which underscores the notion that you just don't know until they get to campus.
