Obviously it’s not factored in as heavily as efficiency in OOC

Iowa State was top 20 in NET after non conference play and their best wins were VCU and Iowa. Their OOC SOS is 292 ours is 37. They were 11-2 with Ls to us and aTm; we were 8-3 with Ls vs USCe, at Auburn & vs FAU; all top 40 teams away from home Yet our NET was always below them in spite of beating them on a neutral court and having a top 40 OOC schedule vs their 292. Especially after losing big to FAU and Auburn (we were exhausted and had too many tough games in a week span) Iowa State is obviously a tourney team…and I’m glad they’re up there…frankly that win helps us a ton because of their ranking…but as CC shows in his article it’s not about OOC SoS anymore. Too bad because if it was like this for Seth Greenberg teams he’d have had 2 more NCAA tourney teams

NET nonsense: Today’s edition: Clemson wins but not by enough
hokiepro 01/31/24 09:33 AM ET
Maybe it should be the most wins at the least number of points
VTCALS72 02/03/24 10:10 AM ET
How else do you want to judge?
HokiesACC2004 01/31/24 06:33 PM ET
I think honestly they should average the RPI & NET;
hokiepro 01/31/24 06:36 PM ET
I don't think there is any case to use RPI...
Cvillehoops13 02/01/24 11:11 AM ET
Do you think they realized the big discrepancy some would see
hokiepro 02/01/24 11:53 AM ET
I don't think there is any use in evaluating the NET until the end...
Cvillehoops13 02/01/24 02:21 PM ET
Makes sense; seems NET can be “gamed” as a conference too
hokiepro 02/01/24 03:43 PM ET
If the goal is to evaluate teams in the most accurate way possible...
Cvillehoops13 01/31/24 03:18 PM ET
But wouldn't that just make teams go for blowouts?
VTCALS72 02/03/24 10:04 AM ET
I agree that NET is an improvement over RPI. However, the Quad system needs
HokieEngineer 01/31/24 06:20 PM ET
Yes, treating it as a continuous variable is better
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 06:30 PM ET
A question.....
2hhoop3 01/31/24 04:29 PM ET
Both, but meant just as much as…
Cvillehoops13 02/01/24 07:58 AM ET
Thanks for the reply......
2hhoop3 02/01/24 11:30 AM ET
I don't know the NET formulae very well but I too don't understand
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 03:52 PM ET
It’s about how OOC resumes are viewed
hokiepro 01/31/24 04:03 PM ET
The committee does what it wants.**
VTCALS72 02/03/24 10:06 AM ET
SOS is part of NET so isn't that already factored into the ranking?
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 04:13 PM ET
Obviously it’s not factored in as heavily as efficiency in OOC
hokiepro 01/31/24 04:28 PM ET
And why should SOS be weighted more than efficiency? **
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 04:34 PM ET
More than anything it’s an opinion BUT
hokiepro 01/31/24 05:16 PM ET
They have. In a positive direction, IMO **
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 06:27 PM ET
Wow, when did we lose 2 more games??**
hokiepro 01/31/24 03:22 PM ET
Corrected, sorry was doing some hypotheticals and of course didn't reset...
Cvillehoops13 01/31/24 03:27 PM ET
We’re 4-8 in Q1+Q2
hokiepro 01/31/24 03:24 PM ET
Efficiency is essentially adjusted for quality of opponent and location
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 04:40 PM ET
The problem is that because the NET is used to just be based on this year..
Cvillehoops13 01/31/24 03:34 PM ET
If we woulda beaten the cocks and FSU we ain’t worrying bout no NET
HokieHoopzThe2nd 01/31/24 02:31 PM ET
I wish the tournament would just go to 128 teams
OrlandoHokie 01/31/24 12:01 PM ET
The regular season is already meaningless
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 12:52 PM ET
The regular season obviously isn’t “meaningless” when relatively recent
hokiepro 01/31/24 03:54 PM ET
"Meaningless" is a strong term. "Not compelling might be a better phrase.
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 04:04 PM ET
Hang on one second...
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 03:58 PM ET
Isn't the NCAA tournament more about gambling now? Too big to fail.**
WildTurkE 01/31/24 12:04 PM ET
I think 96 makes sense.
hokiepro 01/31/24 12:03 PM ET
Actually for keeping interest in VTMBB 68 is ideal
Vippie1 01/31/24 01:18 PM ET
1000% agree
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 01:50 PM ET
The one that really pisses me off is Nova
ReasFordHoo 01/31/24 10:49 AM ET
Every year there is a team with a resume that makes it VERY difficult...
Cvillehoops13 01/31/24 03:23 PM ET
Yup,Nova sucks. Both VT and UVA would beat Nova right now, this is not Jay
HokieBrazil 01/31/24 02:35 PM ET
In the NET system, does a 10 point win
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 10:16 AM ET
Well, efficiency ratings are built in...
Chris ColemanAdmin 01/31/24 10:37 AM ET
Thanks Chris. That's helpful.
Pride_and_Joy 01/31/24 10:49 AM ET
If only they would have beat Duke (:
