Most of the players VT has taken from the Portal have been lower

level kids that CMY saw and knew had moxey and potential. He has that ability to evaluate talent. My question is this: There are only so many Portal players that can play at an ACC level. VT won't get many Tyler Nickels. Can this program really be competitive only recruiting Portal players? I just can't imagine this strategy alone will be productive year in and year out. Don't rosters also need some HS recruits to keep some continuity with only 13 scholarships available per team? Seems like an entirely portal team would need turnover on the roster a lot more than a mixed team. Discuss among yourselves.
