Just to be clear...

...the ultimate responsibility for this fiasco lies with the athletic department and leadership of the MBB program. If you build a roster of guys the majority of whom don't care about the past or future of the program and don't prioritize finding a way to (or don't know how to) create some of that "pride in the name on the front of the jersey" then you are engaged in leadership malpractice. Spending basically the NIT-caliber maximum for guys who don't want to play in the NIT is some real genius stuff.
