What you were taught is a hoops truism.

There will always be games, or stretches of games, where shooters lose confidence, where they realize that the ball is just not going to go down for them that day. The response to that is to tell yourself that you're gonna bust your butt to help the team in all the ways that you CAN control... rebounding, defending, passing, attacking the rim, defense. There is no such thing as being in a "hustle slump". It's OK and understandable to be unhappy, probably baffled, about why you're suddenly struggling on offense. It's not acceptable to hang your head and lower your effort.
