Before Saturday's game..

We were No. 50 in adjusted defensive efficiency for the season. Which would have ranked No. 1 of all out Young's teams at VT, slightly higher than our two NCAA Tournament teams. We certainly are not perfect defensively. Not by a long shot. One more good perimeter defender would help (Johnson). And our centers aren't athletic enough to block/alter shots, and that's a big issue. But overall team defense is our best since our ACC Tournament title team, and it's not really close. Even when you factor in the massive hit we took to our defensive efficiency thanks to the FSU game, we're still a lot better than we have been. Here's how it's been year-by-year... 2019-20: No. 82 2020-21: No. 53 2021-22: No. 54 2022-23: No. 139 2023-24: No. 92 2024-25: No. 166 2025-26: No. 65 (was No. 50 before FSU) We improved our defensive personnel quite a bit this year, and getting Frazier back has helped I think. But I wish we had a center who can jump. Whenever the opposing team gets the ball into the post, they are going to get a decent shot away because we just don't have any jumpers at the 5-spot who can jump. Gurdak and Dorn are tall, but I'd rather have a 6-9 guy who can jump when it comes to defensive basketball.
