in the future, NIL will be allocated different
Almost like NFL, the outside agency will develop, based on metrics, return on investment for a player, and that would be baseline for agreements. This gets back to recruiting the best, and investing in the best, and if a player has a stellar year, the NIL agreements change.
This is not personal, its brand management, and football players, and the type of players we are recruiting or retaining have a higher brand (this is performance based not team wins and loses). Frankly our basketball players have not had the value and when another school comes in to a player and offers a crazy amount, you as an agency, must ask the question, what is the return on investment. Is that player worth the investment, or do you go out and seek another player.
many fans treat college sports with an emotional thing, 'players is coming for the good of playing for team x, its business and they have an unique opportunity to make alot of money for the long term, other than the NFL.
VT 'overall strategy 'at least for football is 1) we want players to want to come to VT, 2) if they really want to come and commit, we have a competitive (not the highest, but competitive NIL opportunity), and when they come to VT they hopefully have a great experience, and if things go right, (and someone comes in to offer, the staff has a candid discussion, and if they really want to stay, and they fit into VT program (based on evaluations), Vt can make it work. If not, its business and good luck.
I don't think basketball has that mindset...Also I dont think basketball has a "general manager' who works the NIL totally to work with Triumph, understand needs desire, current player capabilities and constraints, and who they want and the 'market;. That would help alot. TOO late for this year.
