My guess is he has received one or more nice offers from

a program needing a traditional center next year. While CMY may have hoped to keep him, he has greater need to recruit a center from the portal who can makes 3s as well as finish in the paint. With Gurdak increasing his value this year we probably can’t afford to pay both and could not match Gurdak’s offers.
